Thomas J. O'Brien

Thomas J. O'Brien specializes in property and business litigation. Thomas has been practicing for almost 15 years, having spent most of the past five years representing landlords in wrongful eviction and habitability lawsuits brought by tenants. Thomas is an experienced trial lawyer. Most recently, in 2023 he helped obtain a complete jury verdict in favor of his client, a San Francisco landlord who was accused by a former tenant of renting an illegal unit. The former tenant was seeking over $1 million dollars in past rent and other damages. Thomas is also an experienced appellate attorney. Thomas takes great pride in helping his clients by thinking creatively to maximize chances of success, whether through litigation or negotiation. Thomas has been repeatedly named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.

Raised mainly in South Lake Tahoe, Thomas has lived in California his entire life. He came to the Bay Area to attend UC Berkeley and then earned his JD from Santa Clara University. Thomas lives in San Francisco with his wife and three children, Jack, Nate, and Audrey. Thomas enjoys coaching youth sports, playing basketball, and cheering on the San Francisco Giants and Cal Bears.
